Veterinary Clinic - Save Animals, Save Children!

Organized by Cullen's Archangel RescuE, Inc. (CARE)

Let's Build a Vet Clinic!
This is a legitimate cause and a different way to help save thousands of animals, and in turn, save thousands of human lives. It's a gift of life that will continue to grow and give in your honor, for years to come. It is a veterinary clinic that is long overdue for the animals and people of Mwandi, Zambia! Our goal is to raise $25,000 USD for the construction of the Mwandi Veterinary Clinic.

Toby Hudson, DVM of Kannapolis, NC has worked very hard for the past 5 years to make a difference for the livestock and people of Mwandi, Zambia. When he first arrived several years ago, the cattle were dying off, sterile and unable to produce any milk. This was having a great impact on the people, especially the children. And as for the companion animals... well, the first focus has to be on saving livestock, so their day needs to come quickly!

Some veterinary manufacturers and distributors have been donating products, equipment and money for the past few years. The only way they can get supplies there is by carrying the maximum amount on their backs, which is only 50 lbs., or a freight container. The container costs about $3,500 or more to ship, so it only runs every 2 years. Many items are out of date by this time and there is no place for refrigerated products.

The clinic will benefit companion animals, livestock and the people of Mwandi, Zambia. All donations are tax deductible and will be sent directly to the Mwandi Project earmarked for the vet clinic construction. If you would like to help build a veterinary clinic and save literally thousands of lives, please donate today!

*** Please make a note that your donation is for the Mwandi Vet Clinic. ***

*** Any checks can be made out to Lake Norman Fellowship Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 3023, Mooresville, NC 28117 and are tax deductible. ***

Mwandi, Zambia Clinic
Mwandi Royal village is located in the Western Province of Zambia (Barotseland), on the banks of the Zambezi River, 140km upstream from the Victoria Falls. Mwandi climate is closely linked to that of the Kalahari Desert; this attracts poor and inconsistent rainfall and endemic drought. If rainfall is erratic or late, hunger follows, increasing poverty and negatively impacting on standards of living and health. This is generally below average for the country and is unstable and unpredictable. The HIV/AIDS rate in the area is estimated at 33%. The major agricultural activity in this part of Zambia is the rearing of cattle and subsistence agriculture. The cattle population across the Mwandi UCZ Mission catchment area is approximately 30,000. The local Lozi people are traditionally very proud cattle owners and have nearly thirty adjectives in the local language to describe the colours and characteristics of their cattle. Challenges we continue to face:
  • Education -- Continuing to demonstrate to farmers and cattle owners the benefits of proper care and husbandry. Our small project is not in the financial position to purchase the required drugs and vaccines to run the pilot schemes we hope to start this year. We also require the production of education materials and aids to help deliver our message.
  • Scale of Need -- With 27,000 animals to care for the logistical challenge is immense, our remote location makes the procurement of drugs a challenge for us let alone Cattle owners who have no access to refrigeration.
  • Vet Centre -- We would like to construct a purpose built vet centre from which to launch our program from this would also be a research base and somewhere farmers could come for help. We have a missionary vet ready to staff it and we have some fantastic laboratory equipment already donated from a practice in the USA. Cost $25,000
